Sharon Kay Briney, 84, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on September 29, 2026. She was born on October 26, 1941, to Quentin and Pauline Kelley.

Known to family and friends as Kay, she grew up on a farm outside Beloit, Kansas, where her lifelong love of animals began. She graduated from Beloit High School with the Class of 1959 and attended Colorado Women’s College for one year, followed by two years at Fort Hays State University.

Kay married Roger Briney in April 1962 at the Beloit Methodist Church. Shortly after their marriage, Roger entered boot camp with the United States Army and was later stationed in El Paso, Texas. Kay joined him there in the fall of 1962 and transferred to Texas Western College for her senior year. She graduated in the spring of 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

In 1963, Roger was sent overseas to Thailand with the U.S. Army while Kay began her career with the federal government. She worked for the Immigration and Naturalization Service in its El Paso office for eight years, from 1963 to 1971.

Kay and Roger made their home in El Paso for many years. While raising their son Mark, Kay was actively involved in volunteering at his schools. In 2010, she and Roger moved to Edmond to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Kay remained an avid animal lover throughout her life. From the animals on her family’s farm near Beloit to the many beloved cats and dogs she and Roger welcomed into their home over the years, animals always held a special place in her heart.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Quentin and Pauline Kelley, and her son, Paul Briney.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Roger Briney of Edmond; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gladiola Briney; her grandchildren, Eli and Eva Briney; her sister, Virginia McReynolds of Monterey, California; and her nephews, Scott and Mike McReynolds. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.
