Sharon J. Treaster

July 8, 1933 — November 13, 2013

Sharon Jeannie Tarrant was born on July 8, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of William and Blanche Risley Tarrant. She died on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center at the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 5 days.
She grew up in relative poverty but her dad was a risk taker and one of his ventures paid off as Tarrant Electric in Wichita, KS which prospered. She helped run that company with her brother until she moved to Beloit to marry Arden Treaster in 1965.
Sharon was an achiever to say the least. She didn't learn to swim until she was a teenager but lettered in swimming from East High where she graduated in 1950. She was s substitute teacher part time until she started teaching full time in 1971, taught Spanish, French, English, Forensics, Directed plays, Junior Class Sponsor, Bachelors at WSU, Masters at FHSU, Doctorate at KSU. From teacher she became a school Assistant Principal, Principal and Superintendent where she once acted as a wrestling coach for the wrestlers that went to State from Waconda East one year because they needed a certified teacher to go as a coach.
She was involved in just about every organization known to man . . . PEO, Delphians, Rotary, Friends of the Library, Waconda Heritage Village, Talking Tombstones, Silver Haired Legislature, Rotary District Governor, Highway 24 Tourist Committee, Pawnee Mental Health Board, and the Beloit Planning Commission . . . the list just goes on and on to the point she was often told she was going to be late for her own funeral because she would want to get in one last committee meeting before the service.
She took a number of trips overseas for pleasure and to take students abroad, and she has been to most corners of the world including France where she studied for a semester at the University of Strasbourg and a month long service trip for Rotary with 4 young professionals to South America. She also was named a Kansas Republican Delegate to the 1984 Republican Convention in Dallas. When you think about it she did an awful lot in 80 years and then raised 4 boys and all that went along with that on top of everything. She earned her wings as a private pilot. She kept in good shape by running everyday. She loved the beach and the mountains. She loved animals and never turned a stray dog or cat at the door away. She respected all people regardless of race or religion and instilled the same in her sons. She was a devout Christian, Scholar, KU fan and Republican. She defied and fought against the feminine stereotype her entire life and to her credit proved that a woman could be every bit as good as a man in almost any endeavor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Jr.; and one granddaughter, Michelle Treaster.
Sharon is survived by her husband Arden; four sons, Terry Tevis of Lenexa, Jeff Tevis of Derby, Matt Treaster of Newton, and Chad Treaster of Mequon, WI; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She left the world a much better place because of the life she led. As a teacher, she taught us well. And as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will always be loved and forever in our hearts.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 26 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM with family present from 6-7 PM on Monday, November 25 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church, Rotary International, or the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation-RCC Unit.
