Shirley Mcpeak

June 15, 1926 — September 25, 2025

Glen Elder.

Shirley Rose (Miller) McPeak, 99, of Glen Elder, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at MCHHS, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 15, 1926 on the family farm NE of Downs to Rudolph and Callie (Hulett) Miller.

Shirley attended Oak Dale Country Grade School and graduated from Downs High School with the Class of 1944.

In September 1944, Shirley traveled to Washington D.C. and was employed at the War Information Office during World War II. After the war, she was employed at Kansas Senator Cappers office in the Senate Building.

When Shirley returned home, she worked as a secretary at Hardman Wholesale Lumber Company, Osborne.

On September 4, 1949, Shirley was united in marriage to Lyle McPeak at the Downs Methodist Church in a double-wedding ceremony with her sister, Ardis. Shirley and Lyle started their married life on the Cecil Boehner farm SW of Glen Elder. In the spring of 1959, they moved to Lyle's home place where they raised their family.

Shirley was a devoted wife and mother to three active boys. Shirley and Lyle were both passionate about attending their boys' and then their grandchildren's sporting events and activities. She also kept busy cooking, gardening, raising puppies, and running farm errands. Friends and neighbors were very important to Shirley, and she was always ready with a quick smile and a "Hi, how are you?"

Throughout the years, Christmas time was special for Shirley, and she spoiled each family member with gifts, including a special Hallmark ornament every year that was chosen just for them. Gifting made her heart happy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lyle, who passed away in 2005. She was also preceded in death by sons, Steven Lyle and Barry Eugene; sisters, Betty Burns and Ardis Jones.

Shirley is survived by her son, Marty (Carla) McPeak; daughter-in-law, Darcel McPeak, all of Glen Elder. Grandchildren: Michelle (Ron) Dubbert, Hebron, NE; Jeff (Lindsay) McPeak, Lincoln, NE; Kelly (Andrew) Schardt, Deshler, NE; and Mackenzie Rose McPeak, Wichita, KS.
Great-grandchildren: Peyton (Braelyn) Dubbert, Brenna Dubbert, Carter, Kennedy Rose, and Grady McPeak, Evalyn, Theodore and Delilah Rose Schardt. And one great-great-grandchild, Briggs Dubbert. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly, and her special kitty, Gracie.

Shirley's family wishes to extend a special thank you to those who provided such wonderful care for her: The Glen Elder Nutrition Site; Dr. Concannon and his staff; and MCHHS nursing staff. Her days at home were extended by two special caregivers, Carly Gourley and Natalie Harris.
