Shirley May Seamans was born on February 6, 1939 in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Carl Goodeyon Jr. and Orpha Jensen Goodeyon. She died early Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 12 days.
Shirley grew up and lived her entire life in Beloit and Jewell. In 1958, she was united in marriage with Charles White, and he was killed in Germany a short time later. She later married Boyd Seamans in 1960, and to this union were born a daughter, Belinda, and two sons, Mike and Danny. They were privileged to spend 14 years of marriage together before he died in 1974.
She and Boyd owned Boyd's grocery store in Jewell. After his death, Shirley returned to nursing, and she worked at the Mitchell County Hospital for a total of 45 years.
Shirley had a deep compassion for people, and after losing Boyd, she raised her three children on her own along with working at the residential care center.
Her love and dedication to the residents of Long Term Care were returned to her as she spent her final years living out her life there.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Jewell Christian Church.
Shirley loved college basketball, country music, and playing bingo.
In addition to her husbands, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob and Max Goodeyon; and her sister, Virginia Fehn.
She is survived by her daughter, Belinda Snyder and her husband Jerry of Manhattan; two sons, Michael, and Danny and his wife Lisa, all of Beloit; a brother, Donald Goodeyon and his wife Joan; a sister-in-law, Jeannine Seamans; a special niece, Debra Goodeyon; four grandchildren, Blake and wife Meghan McMillan, Heather Farris, Shannon Barnes and husband Nick, and Jerred Snyder; four great grandchildren, Alyssa, William, Danner, and Ryder; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Friday, November 21 at the Jewell Christian Church. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 8 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Resident Care Center.
