Stanley L. Plush

April 14, 1925 — September 26, 2009

Beloit

Stanley Lawrence Plush was born April 14, 1925 to Earl V. and Margaret Irene McElvain Plush in Glasco, Kansas. He graduated from Glasco High School in 1943. Following graduation, he was accepted into the Navy V-12 Program at the University of Kansas. He graduated from Purdue University in 1946 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. While serving in the Navy he was assigned as a Division Officer at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii during the summer of 1946.

Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Glasco where he joined his father in operating the family feed mill business, Plush Mills. On June 29, 1947, he was joined in marriage with Betty Stone of Concordia, KS. Seven children were born to this union, Susan, Mark, Judy, Wendy, Steven, Scott, and Matthew.

In January of 1982, the Mill caught fire and burned to the ground. Thus began Stan's further business ventures. His first was "Dr. Glass" windshield repair. Stanley enjoyed driving the backroads of North Central Kansas repairing windshields and meeting new people. After ending the windshield business Stanley and his son Steve formed a tour bus company, S&S Tours. Stanley finally retired in 2000, and began his many volunteer duties and enjoying more time visiting his kids and grandkids.

A lifelong member of the Glasco community, Stanley lived on the same block for his entire life. He was an active member of the Methodist Church serving in many capacities; including the United Methodist Men, Board of Trustees, and also sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Glasco Lions Club, the Glasco VFW, the Cloud County Commission on Aging, served on the Glasco School Board for many years, and for the last several years he took an active roll as associate coordinator for the State of Kansas AARP Safe Driving classes. Stanley was one of the founding members of the Glasco Rural Fire Department.

Stan's greatest joy in life was his family. He loved having them all home, and could often be seen just sitting in his chair with a big smile on his face watching the younger kids laugh and play.

Stanley's sudden diagnosis of cancer took everyone by surprise, and he left us too soon on Saturday, September 26, 2009. He faced his illness as he faced other challenges in his life; never losing his sense of humor and his love for his family.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Betty of the home; children: Susan & husband Roger Miller of Portis; Mark & wife Joy of Kansas City Mo., Judy & husband Bill Wells of Glasco; Wendy & husband Mark Stanbrough of Emporia; Steve, Salt Lake City, Utah; Scott, Salina; Matt &wife Beth of Oak Harbor, Washington. Grandchildren: Mindy Miller; Jennifer Horn; Marla Gowin; Coy and Brooke Wyatt; Bethany, Leslie, and Jenna Stanbrough; Kale and Kolin Plush; Lauryn and Natalie Plush; great grandchildren: Jack, Will, & Brigit Horn: Avery Wyatt, Daisy and A.J.
