Steven Dale Murphy was born on December 14, 1959 in Osborne, Kansas, the son of Stanley and Fredrica Robinson Murphy. He died suddenly on Sunday, September 6, 2020 in Lebanon, Kansas at the age of 60.

Steven was baptized at the age of 2 in Alton, Kansas. He began his schooling in Albuquerque, New Mexico before the family returned to Kansas, where he finished school, graduating from Mankato High School. Following his graduation, he spent many years working in the meat packing industry, first in Downs, then Mankato, and finally in Wellington, Kansas. He served as a volunteer fire fighter in Mankato, and was also a Sheriff's Deputy in Sumner County, Kansas. He then moved to Nebraska, where he was employed by the York County Sheriff's Department, and later at Dollar General in Superior.

In 1980 he was united in marriage with Jennifer Esslinger. Three sons, Michael, Eric, and Christopher, were born to this union, which later dissolved.

He was married to Misty Thompson in 2006, and one son, Parker was born.

While he moved around many times, he always considered north central Kansas home, as he recently returned to live in Beloit. He enjoyed being around people, and always kept in touch with friends and family.

Steven also enjoyed spending his free time fishing and hunting, and loved to trade vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley.

Steven is survived by his wife Misty of the home; mother, Fredrica Murphy of Mankato; sons, Michael and his wife Rachel of Wellington, Eric of Wellington, Chris and his wife Sarah of Denver, and Parker of the home; two brothers, Chuck and wife Trish of Central City, Nebraska, and Barrie and wife Lori of Bonnie Lake, Washington; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 2 PM Saturday, September 12 at the Corinth Cemetery near Downs. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM Friday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund.
