Steven R. Schmidt

Steven Ray Schmidt, age 54, died at his home in Glen Elder on December 7, 2014. He was the son of Donald Raymond and Connie Virginia Wyman Schmidt of Ionia.

He was born on November 6, 1960 in Beloit and raised in Ionia. He attended school in Jewell and Randall through 1979. He was united in marriage to Kelly Snyder on September 5, 1981. Three daughters Jennifer, Kasey, and Jill were born to this union. Their marriage was dissolved in 1998.

Steven was united in common law marriage to Kim Boland with step daughter Tegan. One daughter, Madison was born to this union.

Steve, as everyone knew him, worked for Rose Pork Producers and owned a hog containment facility. He then worked as an independent concrete contractor.

Steve's daughters and grandchildren were of the utmost importance to him.

Steve was a natural athlete and excelled in sports. He also participated in extra-curricular sporting activities. He was a brown-belt in Tae Kwon Do and competed in numerous tournaments. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching all kinds of sports.

He enjoyed helping others and knew few strangers.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Don Schmidt, two sisters Barbara Schmidt and Carol Fleming, one brother Carl Schmidt and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife Kim of the home, his mother Connie Schmidt of Wellington, KS; daughters Jennifer Smith and husband Taron of Hutchinson, Kasey Schmidt and significant other Travis Trautman of Pittsburg, Jill Schmidt of Beloit; Tegan Kemmerer and husband Justin of Jewell, Madison Boland-Schmidt of the home; one brother Roger Schmidt of Russell, two sisters Joann Hansen and husband Jim of Assaria, Janice McDaniel and husband John of Wellington; eleven grandchildren Emma, Riley, Chloe, Mason, Dannika, Karlea, Paytyn, Kross, Lakyn, Kash, Krisey; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Ionia United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Ionia Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Funeral Expense Fund. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
