Tessie Fay Nay was born on May, 14 1928, at home in Mountain Home, AR to Robert and Ella (Bentley) Cranfill. Tessie lived a long joyful life. She was a lifetime member to several auxiliaries, they are as follows. Tessie belonged to the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary V F W, the Women of the Moose, Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Tessie was a member of the Assembly of God church of Jewell, KS the whole time she resided in Jewell. Tessie enjoyed helping out where she was needed.
Tessie loved to work in the garden and her grandchildren would love to pick her rhubarb and strawberries just so she would make them a fresh strawberry rhubarb pie, none ever went to waste. Tessie loved to play bingo. She would always take one or more grandchild with her because the slide tabs hurt her fingers, although she would take the grandchildren even when bingo went to paper and dobbers. Tessie enjoyed having as many of her little ones, as she called them, around as often as they could be. When her grand, great, & great-great grandchildren would come to visit her it was the highlight of her life. Tessie enjoyed every living moment she shared with her family.
Tessie Fay Cranfill married Phillip Pittaway in 1945. She was blessed with three children, all born in Baxter Count, AR, Claude (Bud) Gene Studdard Sr., Ernestine and Jack Pittaway. After Phillip's death, Tessie married Max Nay in Jewell, KS, where she still resided until she was unable to care for herself. Tessie then lived in Hilltop Lodge of Beloit, KS.
Tessie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ella, six brothers, Richard, William, Eugene, Cleo, Orvil, and Ezra. Tessie is preceded in death by four grandchildren, Tonya, Catherine, Phillip, and Lonnie and one great-grand child, Gerald. Tessie was a loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother and enjoyed being all of them. She is survived by her sister Jessie of Mountain Home, AR, her children, Claude (Bud) Gene Studdard Sr. and his wife Judith of Randall, KS, Ernestine Cersey of Tennessee, GA, and Jack Pittaway and his wife Joye of Beloit KS. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
Tessie will be missed by loved ones, and friends. She will be a wonderful guardian angel to all her little ones still here.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 29 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Wallace Cemetery near Jewell. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Hospital.
