Thelma Lela Hendricks was born March 13, 1916 in Jewell County, Kansas, the daughter of William Herman and Jennie Kuiken Borger. She died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 21 days.
Thelma attended country school and graduated from Athens rural High School in 1934. She went on to take her Normal Training and attended Fort Hays State University. Thelma taught at several area country schools, including Little Oak, Liberty, and Excelsior.
On June 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Frank Hauptli. Three sons were born to this union. After their marriage, they lived on a farm in the Walnut Creek Township. They were privileged to spend 25 years together until his death in 1965.
She was then married to Ralph Hendricks on February 3, 1968. They made their home in Glen Elder before moving to Beloit.
She was a member of the Glen Elder United Methodist Church, the Beloit UMW, and served as a 4-H Leader.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Roger Hauptli; one sister, Nola Borger; and three brothers, Eldon, Kenneth, and Jennings Borger.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph; two sons, Douglas Hauptli and his wife Linda of San Antonio, Texas, and Gary Hauptli and his wife Tutti of Salina, Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kitterman; one brother, Dwight Borger and his wife Joyce of Lenexa; two sisters, Arlene Pearson of Beloit, and Bonnie Slate and her husband Virgil of Glen Elder; six grandchildren, Benjamin Hauptli, Stefan Yates, Liam Yates, Deanna Hauptli, Renee Payton, and Geoffrey Hauptli; six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 7 at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Church.
