Thelma Esther Slaven was born November 30, 1913 to Charles Henry and Myrtle Ann Landis Albert on a farm south of Glen Elder, Kansas. She departed this life of 98 years, 2 months, 14 and days Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
Thelma attended the Walnut Creek country school and graduated from Glen Elder High School in the Class of 1932. After graduation, she taught for three years at Walnut Creek District #20 school.
On May 3, 1935 she married Mark Howard Slaven at the Quaker parsonage. Three children Joyce, Jerome, and James were born to this happy union.
Thelma and her family lived on a farm near Glen Elder until moving to Beloit in 1954. She was no stranger to hard work and for many years was a clerk for Bunch Drug Company, S&S Drug and later worked in the Mitchell County Clerk's Office for several years.
Thelma centered her life around her family. She was always there for them and loved cooking, one of her many specialties was fried chicken, and lots of it. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were always on her mind and she loved spending time with them and always looked forward to their visits.
She was a member of First Christian Church and in previous years enjoyed membership in the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her beloved husband Mark died on April 20, 1995. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother Doyle Albert.

TX, Jerome Slaven and wife Beth of Shawnee, KS, James Slaven and wife Janice of Suwanee, GA; one sister Opal Giddings of Beloit; six grandchildren Douglas Nesmith and wife Suzanne, Waco, TX, Daniel Nesmith and wife Sandra, Littleton, CO, David Nesmith, Houston, TX, Lisa Slaven, Overland Park, KS, Jenna and Jarod Slaven, Suwanee, GA; four great grandchildren Matthew Nesmith and wife Chelsea, The Woodlands, TX, Timothy Nesmith, Amy Nesmith both of Houston, TX, Paul Slaven, Overland Park, KS; one great-great grandchild Avery Nesmith, The Woodlands, TX, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the McDonald Funeral Home with burial following in the Glenwood Cemetery at Glen Elder. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church, and friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
