Thomas Warren Wadick, 88, of Beloit, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Mitchell County Resident Care Center early Wednesday, June 22, 2011.
Tom, as he was known by all, was born October 25, 1922 in Chapman Kansas at the family home, the son of late Henry and Tesse (Howe) Wadick.
He was a graduate of Larned High School class of 1941 and the Brown Mackie Business School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served as first sergeant with the 231st ordnance heavy automotive maintenance company. After the war on June 7, 1948 he then married Eloise Gering in Beloit at St. John's Catholic Church.
Tom worked as a manager for the J. M. McDonald clothing store in Beloit for the majority of his working life. He participated in NCKTC business education training for distributive education students in business organization, management, and inventory. After the McDonalds organization was sold to the Gambles Company, Tom became an employee at the Farmway Credit Union.
Tom was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Beloit area Chamber of Commerce, and the former Beloit Elks Lodge.
Tom really enjoyed life and especially doing outdoor activities. Tom loved to walk and you could find him walking daily over Beloit. He enjoyed people, delivering meals on wheels, escorting people during blood bank donations. His favorite times were ice skating and swimming at Chapman Creek, delivering papers with his dog Peggy (German Shepherd), high school dances with his sister Theresa, dancing with his beloved wife Eloise, being ornery, hunting and fishing with his brother Mark and two sons, horseback riding with his daughter, driving a wheat truck during harvest, and family picnics. During his stay at LTC Tom would take sabbaticals with his daughter at his home. He loved eating pancakes, rhubarb pie, mashed potatoes, Russell Stover's chocolates, cookies and star bucks coffee. When at home he would wake up early and start his litany of "where's the coffee, have you made the coffee, I need my coffee." He enjoyed his grand dogs, especially his border collie Oliver whom always sat by his chair with him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Eloise, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wadick and brothers Bob and Mark Wadick.
Tom is survived by his sister Theresa Fulcher Chattanooga, TN, three children, Charles Wadick of Easley, SC; James Wadick (Debbie) of El Dorado, KS; Mary Wadick of Kansas City, MO; two sisters-in-law Helen Wadick past resident of Salina Ks, Shirley Gering, Brighton CO, one grandchild Katie Marie Wadick of El Dorado KS, and a host of many friends.
