Tommy L. Chance

July 8, 1941 — August 2, 2013

Tommy Lewis Chance was born on July 8, 1941 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Claude and Faye Shaffer Chance. He died Friday, August 02, 2013 at his home in Cawker City, Kansas at the age of 72 years and 25 days.
Tom grew up and attended schools in Palco before graduating from Damar High School.
On January 1, 1993, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Jo Marak-Chance.
He served in the United States Army, and later went to work for ADM in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he worked for more than 34 years. Following his retirement, he moved to Cawker City to follow his love of hunting and fishing. He also provided seasonal help for the Department of Wildlife and the Kansas Parks Department.
In addition to his love for hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed many other sports, as well as his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was also very active in the community, where he was a member of the American Legion Post #379 and served on the Board of Trustees at the Cawker City United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Glen Elder Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jimmy.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Kevin (Tammy) Chance of Lincoln, NE, Melissa (Thomas) Hamilton of Lincoln, NE, Dennis Entz of Collierville, TN, Jerri (Joe) Senger of Glen Elder, Julie Entz of Green River, WY, and Elizabeth (Eddie) Bowman of Great Bend; three sisters, Helen Schubert of Hays, Marie Schepmann of Claflin, and Pamela DuFresne of Crystal Beach, TX; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, August 7 at the Cawker City United Methodist Church followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 PM Tuesday, August 6 at the Church. Memorials may be given to the American Legion Post #379 or Solomon Valley Hospice.
