Twyla Victoria Remus, 61, was born January 20, 1952 to Louis and Marie Brummer. She passed away on March 16, 2013 at the Long Term Care Unit at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit surrounded by her adoring family.
Twyla spent her childhood on the family farm near Tipton, Kansas. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School and graduated from Tipton High School in 1970. After graduation, she attended Marymount College in Salina and received a BSN in nursing. She then returned home to work at the Mitchell County Hospital. After several years she assumed her duties at the Cawker City Clinic where she worked for over thirty years. Twyla's love for nursing and the people she served was evident. It was nothing for Twyla to receive a phone call after hours from someone seeking nursing advice.
On May 4, 1973, Twyla was united in marriage to Charles W. Remus (CW) of Cawker City, Kansas at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Tipton. To this union five sons were born. The couple moved to a farm near Cawker City where they spent many enjoyable years together.
Twyla's favorite memories involved her sons. She especially loved helping them with the cattle and cooking at harvest. She never missed an event that in which they were involved. She loved listening to the stories her sons would share about their ornery side but they got it honest because Twyla had the same playful tendencies. She loved spending time with her friends whether it was on a trip, at the lake, or at a social gathering. One of her major passions was card playing. Her weekly card games usually found Twyla victorious.
Twyla enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Even though her years spent with them were very limited, she left them with memories that will last a lifetime.
Twyla was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. She was an active member in the Ladies Guild, Daughters of Isabella, and Xi Theta Lambda Sorority.
Twyla was preceded in death by her infant son, Kyle, her parents, and brother Charles.
She is survived by her Husband, CW, sons, Sheldon (Michelle) Remus, Creighton (Shauna) Remus, Dalton (KC) Remus, Nolan (Bethany) Remus: four grandchildren, Peyton Remus, Hudson Remus, Reece Remus, Ryker Remus. Other survivors include her sisters Cynthia May, Sylvia Budke, Michelle Murrow and brothers Harry Brummer, Melvin Brummer, Victor Brummer, and Kenneth Brummer, as well as many dear friends, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, March 20 at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. A parish rosary will be at 7 PM Tuesday at the Church. Visitation will be from 4 PM until the rosary service, & the casket will remain closed. Memorials may be given to the Solomon Valley Hospice.
