Verl Arnold Mendenhall was born to George and Pearl Conger Mendenhall on November 10, 1915 on a farm near Esbon, Kansas. His life of 94 years, 4 months, and 11 days ended peacefully Sunday afternoon, March 21, 2010 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
Verl spent his early years growing up on the family farm near Esbon where he graduated from high school. It was during these years that he developed a love for hunting, fishing and the great outdoors.
It was on September 11, 1940 that he married Eva Bell at Beloit, Kansas. To this union were born three sons Arnold, David, and Arden. They made their home on a farm northwest of Ionia in Jewell County, Kansas. He loved farming and had a special affinity for raising Hereford cattle.
In about 1970, Verl and Eva moved to Beloit, making their home at 312 N. Mill. Verl became the boiler operator at the former Beloit Youth Center until his retirement. Once retired, he and Eva pursued their passion of traveling, not only in all of the 50 United States but to Europe as well. Their travels often included visiting countless relatives along the way.
Verl was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Floyd Mendenhall.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Eva of the home, sons Arnold Mendenhall and wife Agnes of Hickman, Nebraska, David Mendenhall and wife Carol of Sterling, New York, Arden Mendenhall and wife Cathy of Wittmann, Arizona. Verl will be deeply missed by his beloved thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren along with many relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home with burial following in the Esbon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hilltop Lodge. Friends may call from 9 AM until 8 PM Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.
