Veronica J. Brummer Carl was born on March 11, 1921 to Ignatz and Anna Redeker Brummer on the family farm seven miles south and ½ mile west of Downs, Kansas. She died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 21 days.
She attended High Prairie Grade School and St. Theresa's Academy in Cawker City. She suffered from Rheumatic Fever as a teenager, and spent time recovering at home from the disease.
Prior to getting married, she was employed by a Government program in Smith Center, Kansas, and later had employment in Downs. Veronica had eight brothers and sisters, of which she is the second oldest of the children.
On September 25, 1946, at the age of 25, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Carl at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. Kenneth and Veronica spent 12 years farming at Waconda Springs. They then moved into Cawker City for the remainder of their married life. They had the privilege of enjoying 57 years of life together until his death in November 2003. To their union of marriage, three daughters, Mary, Lucy, and Jean, and one son, Michael were born.
Veronica was an active member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and has been considered the "queen of the rosary". She has also been involved with Ladies Guild for over 57 years until her health began to fail, and is an honorary member.
In addition to her husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joe and Francis Brummer; two sisters, Agnes Brummer and Madeline Rypma; and a grandson, Jeremy Carl.
Veronica is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Broderick and her husband Ric of Bettendorf, IA, Lucy Dahm and her husband Gary of Manhattan, and Jean Larkin and her husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids, IA; one son, Michael Carl and his wife Linda of Salina; two brothers, Louis Brummer of Downs and Tony Brummer and his wife Carol of Plainville; one sister, Jean Selichnow of Aurora, CO; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 4 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City followed by burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. A parish rosary will take place at 7 PM Friday, October 3 at the Church, & visitation will be from 5 PM until the rosary service begins. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice.
