Violet Claire (Wolfington) Parker of Glen Elder, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Mitchell County Hospital, after courageously battling heart disease and cancer.
Violet and her twin brother Herbert James were born October 31, 1929 to Harry Lester and Ruby Claire (Patrick) Wolfington on the family farm near Mindenmines, Missouri. Violet's mother, from whom she acquired her cooking skills and joy of providing family meals, died when she was 16 leaving her to maintain the household for her father and brothers. After graduating from Mindenmines High School, Violet attended beauty school and began working at the bank in Mindenmines.
On August 28, 1954 Violet and Charles Wayne Parker were united in marriage at Lamar, MO. This union was blessed with three children- Robert Wayne , Lisa Ann and David Charles. They were privileged to celebrate 45 years together before Charlie passed away on November 26, 1999.
The couple moved to Glen Elder, KS in 1957 when Charlie accepted a teaching and coaching position. They initially planned to stay only a couple of years but fell in love with the community and decided to make it their permanent home.
In addition to raising her family, Violet was a 20-year employee of the United States Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster in 1991. Violet's happiness came in the form of family, friends and the time spent together enjoying birthdays, holidays and family celebrations. Nothing made her happier than planning, cooking and serving her homemade dishes to others. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her life. Violet also was a proud member of the United Methodist Church ,United Methodist Women, Mary's Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star –all of Glen Elder, Kansas.
Besides her parents and husband, Violet was preceded in death by a sister -Doris Lenora Stamback and brother- Harry Phillip Wolfington.
Violet is survived by her sons- Bob and Jane of Lenexa, KS, David and Julie of Beloit, KS and daughter, Lisa Jermark and Steve of Glen Elder, grandchildren- Jared Parker, Justin Parker, Joshua Parker, Lisa Parker, Jake Smith, Krista Boudreaux and Kendra Jermark , 8 great-grandchildren and brother Herbert Wolfington and wife, Nadine of Frontenac, KS.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 25 at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Memorials may be given to the Church.
