Virginia Marie Balthazor

April 21, 1920 — December 27, 2008

Virginia Marie Balthazor, the only child of William Henry "Jack" and Evelena Augusta Mitchell Sims was born April 21, 1920 at Codell, Kansas. She went to sleep on earth and woke up in the arms of Jesus early Saturday morning, December 27, 2008 at the Mitchell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit at the age of 88 years.

Virginia's parents went their separate ways and she was raised by her mother who was a telephone switchboard operator. They moved to Concordia where she graduated from Concordia High School.

On June 22, 1937, she was united in marriage to Everett Roland Balthazor at Concordia. They were the proud parents of Sonia Ann, Gayle Marie, Roland Everett, Steven Louis, and Gary Lee.

Virginia was a longtime resident of Beloit and for many years she and Everett operated the 24-66 Restaurant. There, she worked in virtually every capacity to keep the customers happy.

A strong willed, keen, and very intuitive person, Virginia had a genuine zest for life. She believed that she could accomplish anything she set out to do. She loved her family and was always there for them, stressing the need to be punctual. Virginia had a deep love for animals, especially dogs; one of her favorites was a schnauzer BeccaRae who was always at her side. Virginia loved music and greatly enjoyed being in a musical family.

Virginia converted to Catholicism and was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, always looking forward to attending Mass.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother. Her husband Everett died in 1980, and she was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Mervin Seehafer and a brother-in-law George Balthazor and his wife Grace.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Sonia Ann Seehafer of Beloit, Gayle Halfhide and husband Randy of Concordia, Roland Balthazor and wife Susan of Kansas City, Missouri, Steven Balthazor of Beloit, Gary Balthazor and wife Marilyn of Wichita; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and a host of many friends and relatives.
