Virginia May Bourbon Doyle departed this life on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Hilltop Lodge Retirement Community in Beloit, KS, at the age of 97years. Virginia was born on August 20, 1921 to Oliver J Bourbon and Anna Belle Spatz Bourbon on a farm in northeast Mitchell County.
Virginia attended a rural country school through her 8
th
grade year and then attended Beloit High School where she graduated in 1939. She worked at Duckwall's in downtown Beloit while she was still in high school and after she graduated. She started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone after Duckwall's and became Chief Operator. In the spring of 1957, she started working for the Kansas Power & Light Company in Concordia, KS until she retired in May of 1980. Besides these jobs she was also a wife and loving mother. Virginia also attended Cloud County Community College and took a few classes for self-improvement.
On February 28, 1944 Virginia united in marriage to Leonard M Doyle in Del Rio, Texas. From this union were born four children, Richard, Nancy, Patti and Vicki. Virginia and family lived in Beloit until 1952, when they moved to a farm near Randall, in 1958 they moved to Jamestown, and in 1962 the family moved to a farm north of Jamestown.
Activities she enjoyed included the United Methodist Women, where she held various offices, 4-H Project Leader, and Association for Retarded Citizens. In later years she enjoyed the activities with the KP&L Retirement Group and breakfast with the retired telephone operators. One of her most favorite pastimes was reading. She also enjoyed spending time with family, doing fun things with the grandchildren, and traveling. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Jamestown.
She was a three-time cancer survivor and always shared her faith and positive attitude with others.
Upon the death of her husband, Leonard in 1992, she remained on the farm for a few more years until she moved back to Beloit. She still participated in activities until moving to Hilltop Lodge in October of 2017 where she continued to enjoy time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters Nancy (Greg) Gruber, Phillipsburg, Patti (Rodney) Elliott, Concordia, and Vicki Doyle and partner John Bollig, Ellis; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jean Hansen, brother Stanley Bourbon, son Richard Doyle, and one granddaughter Jaime Trude.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Thursday, February 7 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM with family present from 5-6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jamestown Methodist Church or Hilltop Lodge.
