Virginia Richardson was born January 21, 1930 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Leona Mildred Disney and Harry Carl Hansen. She died Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Eaglecrest Retirement Home in Salina at the age of 85.
She attended the public schools of Tescott and graduated in 1948. She also spent two years at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, and she earned her teacher's certificate, allowing her to teach primary grades in Cawker City.
On December 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Raymond Richardson. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001. Raymond died in September, 2004. The children born to this union were a son, David, and a daughter, Christine.
Virginia was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Cawker City, and the American Baptist Women's Missions.
In 2007, she moved to Eaglecrest Retirement Community in Salina. In 2010, she joined the membership of the First Baptist Church in Gypsum.
She is survived by her son David of Wichita, her daughter, Christine Hanson of Ft. Collins, Colorado, two grandchildren, Jason and Jessica, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 18 at the Gypsum Baptist Church in Gypsum, KS. Burial will take place at 2:30 PM Wednesday, November 18 at the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM Tuesday, November 17 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Diabetes Association or the Salina Chapter of the Salvation Army.
