Vladie Wolfe
Vladimer Eugene Wolfe was born November 10, 1933 to Vladimer John and Elsie Cherney Wolf on a farm one mile south and one mile east of the Bohemian Hall in Ottawa County, Kansas. He departed this life of 76 years, 4 months, and 3 days early Saturday afternoon, March 13, 2010 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
Vladie, as everyone knew him, attended District #74 Grade School in rural Ottawa County and graduated from Delphos High School in the Class of 1952.
On June 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to Arlene Mae Jorgensen at the First Christian Church in Beloit, Kansas. Four children Debra, Bradley, Melinda, and Curtis were born to this union. They lived on a farm five miles south of Glasco for seven years before making their home in Glasco where they have lived ever since.
Vladie was a farmer south of Glasco and worked for livestock sale barns in Glasco, Beloit, and Concordia. He also worked for Trailcraft in Glasco, and after the business was destroyed by fire and relocated in Concordia, he worked there until 1976.
In 1977, Vladie started working for the Cloud County Highway Department as a road maintainer for 23 years. He retired in January, 1999 after having a heart attack and triple bypass surgery in Wichita in June, 1998.
In 2002, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer; during the winter of 2004/2005 he underwent 42 radiation treatments. He began receiving treatment for Lewy Body Dementia in June, 2009 and suffered another heart attack in September, 2009.
He enjoyed his retirement and his grandchildren. You could always find Vladie and Arlene at the Czech Festivals and dances until his health no longer permitted. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Glasco, Concordia Moose Lodge, and the ZCBJ Lodge #203 (Bohemian Hall) of rural Glasco and received his 50 year membership pin. He enjoyed polka music, computer games and old movies.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Tillie and Frank Cherney, Anton and Katherine Wolf, his parents Vladimer and Elsie Wolf, and his brother Donnie Wolfe.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Arlene of the home; four children Debra Michels of Salina, Bradley Wolfe and wife Melinda of Minneapolis, Melinda Trecek and husband Bret of Concordia, Curtis Wolfe of Hays. In addition his grandchildren Brian Wolfe and wife Jackie, Breanna Wolfe, Branden Wolfe, Ethan Michels, Heather and Dalton Wolfe, Lauren, Katelyn and Shea Trecek, Josh Milum and Kristina Widhalm; one great grandson Bradyon Widhalm; two step sisters Doriene Sleek and husband Russ of Salina, Ernestine Currie and husband Dick of Oneonta, New York; two sisters-in-law Frances Wolfe of Solomon, Audrey Jorgensen of Beloit, Delores Jorgensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Glasco with Pastor Dennis McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the ZCBJ Lodge #203 of rural Glasco, The Church or the Area on Aging. Vladie will lie in state from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Dean Funeral Home, Glasco.
