Walter Leroy Wolf was born July 18, 1938 to Walter Elmer and Juanita Mae McGaughey Wolf in Beloit, Kansas. He departed this life of 71 years, 1 month and 17 days unexpectedly Friday evening, September 4, 2009 upon arrival at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

A lifetime resident of Glasco, Squeak as he was known, graduated from Glasco High School. During his childhood years, he, along with his brothers worked on the family farm and in the family implement business.

A proud Marine, Squeak served his country for three years in the islands of the Pacific.

Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Glasco where he was employed by the City of Glasco as Superintendent of the Water and Electric Department. After 47 years, he retired and became sexton of the Glasco Cemetery. Squeak took great pride in the appearance of the cemetery making certain it was neatly mowed and the trees were trimmed.

Squeak married Mary Jo Higle in 1961 and to this union were born two children Tammy and Troy. This union later dissolved and on July 17, 1993 he married Dawn Wilson.

Squeak was very active in the VFW, Glasco Museum and loved researching any history from the area. He researched the Civil War veterans and helped many with their family searches of former Glasco relatives. Squeak was proud of his Bohemian heritage and was always interested in Native American lore and history.

Squeak collected many things such as Native American artifacts, military buttons, shoulder patches, miniature warplanes. He also had a collection of multi-generation family members and farmsteads in the area.

Squeak was a member of the First Christian Church and the Glasco Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7697. He appreciated God's world of nature and animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Dawn of the home, daughter Tammala "Tammy" Piersee, Denton, TX; son Erik "Troy" Wolf & wife Brenda, Johnson, KS; step daughters Crystal G. Wilson & friend Tom Bieker, Concordia, KS, Erin A. Eustice & husband Kevin, Salina, KS; brothers Jim L. Wolf & wife Elda, McPherson, KS, Dick F. Wolf & wife Judy, Wichita, KS; grandchildren Amber L. Harper & husband Ricky, Chris Tyler & wife Becky, Carrie L. Piersee, Adam Ross, Jessalyn Joleigh Wolf & fiancé Matthis Higler, Dakota Emery Wolf, Larz G. Eustice & Luthien E. Eustice; two great-grandchildren Alexander J. Harper and Abigail L. Tyler.

The Glasco Community has lost a great citizen as he was a faithful servant and true friend to all. May he rest in peace.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday at the Glasco Christian Church with Pastor Dennis McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Glasco Museum, Glasco Community Foundation or VFW Post 7697. Mr. Wolf will lie in state from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Dean Funeral Home.
