Waltzie Dawn King was born on December 5, 1933 in Draper, North Carolina, the daughter of Walter and Florence Cobb Yeatts. She died on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne, Kansas at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 14 days.
Waltzie grew up and attended schools in both North Carolina and in Virginia.
In 1951, she was married to Charles King, and four children were born to this union, which later dissolved.
Waltzie worked at Richardson Manufacturing as well as the middle school in Cawker City for many years, and stayed very active in the community as long as her health would allow.
She loved fishing at Waconda Lake, as well as tending to her garden. She also enjoyed working with the children at school, and loved spending as much time with her grandchildren as she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Faye Axsom and Hope Myers.
Waltzie is survived by her children, Janet David and husband John of Lenora, Sherri Nickelson and husband Terry of Byers, Mark King and wife Heide of Smith Center, and Judy Dutton and husband Chris of Clarksville, Tennessee; two brothers, Rev. JC Yeatts and wife Tiajuana of Tappahannock, Virginia and George "Bud" Yeatts of Axton, Virginia; one sister, Dianne Grubbs Cook of Danville, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Memorial services will be at 2 PM Thursday, October 22 at the Waconda Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be given to the Lakeside Middle School Library. Cremation was chosen and there will be no visitation.
