Wayne Abram

Kenneth "Wayne" Abram was born May 12, 1947 at Osborne, Kansas to Carl Kenneth Abram and Edna Beatrice Peters. He passed away Tuesday evening, January 4, 2011 at the Mitchell County Hospital.
Wayne grew up in rural Jewell County and graduated from Jewell County High School in 1965 where he was active in basketball, football and track.
After high school, Wayne attended barber college in Wichita, Kansas graduating in 1966. Wayne then moved to Lawrence where he barbered from 1967 to 1981. He cut hair for Phog Allen and numerous other KU greats.
On August 15, 1969 he was united in marriage to Deborah LaCoe at Dansforth Chapel on the KU campus in Lawrence, Kansas. Of this union of 19 years came two children, Shane and Shannon.
Wayne and Debby lived in Lawrence until moving to Jewell, Kansas for a short stay until moving to Beloit in 1981. Wayne continued to barber in Beloit until 1984. He then went to the Police Academy in Hutchinson, Kansas and joined the Beloit Police Department where he was a police officer until 2000. Serving as a Law Enforcement Office was a great source of pride to Wayne.
In 1991 he was united in marriage to Debbie Lopez.
During Wayne's life he enjoyed playing on numerous softball leagues during his life. He also spent several years umpiring games in the Beloit area. The two loves of his life were KU sports and his motorcycle.
Wayne's five grandchildren were the light of his life. Whether attending school programs, sporting events or the occasional motorcycle rides, they were a big part of each others lives.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Carl Abram.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his children, Shane Abram and his wife, JoEllis of Glen Elder, Kansas; Shannon Wiese of Beloit, Kansas; five grandchildren; Jaid Abram, Brooke Abram, Carter Abram, Nicole Wiese and Jaylyn Wiese; his mother, Edna "Bea" Abram; a brother, James Abram and wife Sharon; a sister, Pam Ewart and husband Ray; a sister, Lana Nelson and husband Jeff and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 8 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Beloit Lions Club Baseball.
