Wilfred "Fred" L. Koenigsman

March 5, 1931 — January 13, 2018

Beloit

Wilfred "Fred" Koenigsman, 86 of Beloit, passed away peacefully at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems on January 13, 2018.

Fred was born March 5, 1931 to Ed B. and Veronica (Lutgen) Koenigsman in Tipton, Kansas. On November 23, 1954 he married Leona "Peggy" Hennes and was happily married for 63 years. He graduated from Tipton High School. Fred was inducted into the Armed Forces in 1951 and served until 1953 in the Korean War. He was awarded medals for Korean Service with 3 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service, and National Defense Service. He especially enjoyed being honored in this year's Veteran's Day Parade.

Fred worked for Farmway Coop for 39 years. After retirement in May of 1992, he enjoyed many years of gardening, lawn work, fishing, and wood-working. He was very creative at hand-crafting miniature models made from scraps out in his shop. Dad could always come up with a pattern fashioned from something he saw or remembered. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the K of C. Sunday afternoons were always spent getting ice cream and driving around in the country, making the "loop" to favorite spots in the county.

Fred was a proud member of St. John's Catholic Church, Beloit, 4 th Degree Knights of Columbus, and the VFW Post #6242.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank, Ralph, Edward C., David, and Jim, one sister Doris (Koenigsman) Mick. He is survived by his wife Leona "Peggy" of Hilltop Lodge Assisted Living, Beloit; children, Jeanne (Kevin) Vering, Pat (Joe) Ludwig, Janet (Ian) Drake all of Beloit, and Dan (Ann) Koenigsman of Colorado Springs, CO; siblings, Richard (Darla) Koenigsman, Bel Aire, KS and Mary Ellen (Leon) Streit of Davison, MI; 10 grandchildren, Kendra (Matt) Lay, Kyle Vering (Danielle), Dr. Jacob (Lauren) Ludwig, Kimberly (Chris) LeSage, Robert Ludwig, Ryan Koenigsman, Amy Koenigsman, Darin (Jennifer) Drake, Derek (Nicole) Drake, & Dana Drake; 14 great grandchildren, Emma and Ava Lay, Scarlett, Isabella, Katherine, and Alexandra Ludwig, Brecken and Brody LeSage, Alexis, Kyla, and Tinley Drake, and Dominic, Declan, and Dexter Drake; and a host of nieces and nephews.
