Willard G. Schramek

December 8, 1928 — October 19, 2005

Willard George Schramek, the son of Joe and Lennie Ann Wolf Schramek, was born December 8, 1928 on a farm near the Bohemian Hall south of Simpson, Kansas. He departed this life of 76 years late Wednesday evening, October 19, 2005 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas following a rather lengthy illness.
"Willie", as everyone knew him, worked for his parents on their farm. On January 9, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army for service in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 16, 1952.
On November 20, 1954, Willard was united in marriage to Doris Darlene Hiserote at Concordia, Kansas. They were privileged to celebrate nearly 51 years of marriage together, and to this union were born two daughters Roxie and Ronda, a third child, a son Jerry Joe died at birth in 1962. They made their home in Beloit.
For many years, Willie worked for Joe Prickett as a carpenter. From groundbreaking to kitchen cabinet making to presentation of the finished home to its new owner, Willie was involved with every phase of construction. He especially enjoyed finish carpentry and loved cabinet making. In addition, Willie learned to be an accomplished stone mason. During his career, Willie built 28 new homes.
In 1969, Willie began working for the City of Beloit. During the next twenty years until the onset of his illness, Willie took pride in his job as Sexton of Elmwood Cemetery. He enjoyed caring for the cemetery and knew the location of just about every grave.
A quiet, rather easy going person, Willie was able to get along with just about everyone; always game for a good joke. Everyone knew they could trust him for his uncomprising honesty and integrity and that his word was golden. He lived for his family, especially his grandchildren and delighted in having them around. He loved athletics and for many years enjoyed parking cars at Trojan Field at home football games. Other pleasures in life included dancing, gardening, fishing, and hunting.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 57 of Beloit, and the ZCBJ WFLA Bohemian Hall #203 of rural Glasco.
His parents preceded him in death. In addition, Willie was preceded in death by brothers Joe and Frank Schramek, and an infant son Jerry Joe Schramek.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife Doris of the home, daughters Roxie Hake and husband Jerry of Beloit, Ronda Saylor and husband William of Bennington, sisters Millie Beck and husband Lawrence of Glasco, Marjorie Melton and husband Max of Stilwell, Kansas; one brother Earl Schramek and wife Evelyn of St. Mary's; four grandchildren Jeff, Joel, and Jessica Hake, and Cory Saylor and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 24, 2005 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Father Larry Letourneau officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Charity of the Donor's Choice. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
