William J. "Bill" Eberle, 84, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 at his home north of Glen Elder, KS. He was born July 14, 1930 to Oscar and Hettie (Barnett) Eberle on a farm north of Glen Elder.
Bill graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1948. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 20, 1951 and honorably served with the 24th and 40th infantry divisions in Korea. After a year of active duty, he spent the remainder of his service at Camp Polk, Louisiana as a M.P.
Bill was joined in marriage to Bernita Timbers on Feb. 1, 1953. The couple spent the next 61 years at their home north of Glen Elder, where Bill joined his father-in-law and brother-in-law in the Timbers and Eberle farming/stockman operation. To this union two children were born, Anita and Ted.
Bill was a member of the Glen Elder United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 143, VFW post 6242 and the Masonic Lodge. He was dedicated to his church, VFW and American Legion where he served as Commander for many years, but his real joy was his family. "Pop" as known by his grandchildren, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill enjoyed many hobbies and loved the outdoors, visiting with friends and following his children and grandchildren's many activities.
Bill was preceeded in death by his parents.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife Bernita, daughter Anita Heidrick and husband Steve, son Ted and wife Roberta, grandsons, Cole Eberle and wife Colleen, Jess Eberle and wife Sierra, Drew Heidrick, granddaughter Macy Heidrick, great grandson Easton Eberle, sister Margery and husband Calvin Schultz, and brother Max and wife Marjorie. He will also be missed by a host of friends and family.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 9 at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to VFW Post #6242, American Legion Post #143, or the Church. Cremation was chosen & there will be no visitation.
