William L. Siegrist

William "Bill" Laverne Siegrist was born on May 15, 1930 near Simpson, Kansas, the only son of Cleo and Vivien Thompson Siegrist. He died early Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 10 days.
Bill grew up and graduated from Simpson High School in the Class of 1948. He went to serve in the US Army, spending most of his service in Alaska. Following his service in 1951, he moved to Indiana, where he met Berta Lou Sprinkle. On June 7, 1953, they were united in marriage. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003, and were privileged to spend more than 52 years of marriage together.
They made their home in Indiana, where he worked for Delco, before moving to Kansas in 1959. Bill worked on the farm for his father, and then for Asherville Grain until his retirement in 1992.
Bill enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, and raising dogs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Shrine's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, David Lee in 1956; two brothers-in-law; one nephew; his sister, Eloise Hillman; and his father-in-law.
Bill is survived by his wife Berta Lou of the home; four sons, Billy Joe and his wife Arlene of Chula Vista, California, Bruce and his wife Sandy of Simpson, and Dan and his wife Terry and David and his wife Michelle, all of Salina; two daughters, Deb Ponton of Topeka, and Becky Monty and her husband Jason of Simpson; three sisters, Phyllis Wendling of Alaska, Frances Wickman and her husband Chuck of Topeka, and Elizabeth Carlson and her husband Jack of McPherson; his mother-in-law, Esther Sprinkle of Walton, Indiana; two brothers-in-law, Joe Sprinkle and his wife Linda of Walton, and Bud Hillman of Norton; one great aunt, Helen Sams of Glasco; 24 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 28 at Dean Funeral Home in Glasco. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund.
